We grow curious minds.

Guided by their imaginations and sense of wonder, children ask questions, problem solve, and follow their interests as we explore the natural world together. Daily excursions into nature invite children to enjoy and appreciate what is often passed unseen. They share observations and reflect on their learning using nature journals, natural building materials, and a wide variety of art supplies, working both independently and together. Our group gatherings are also opportunities each day for children to practice storytelling and develop early literacy skills as they describe new discoveries and ongoing investigations. At The Children’s Burrow, we give children the time to play and the tools to experience our world up close.

We grow kind hearts.

New friendships blossom when children connect with each other through their play and discoveries in the natural world. They share the joy and excitement that comes with finding a place to create a cozy hideaway, a heavy stump that requires many hands to turn over, or a caterpillar that must be nourished and cared for. We model caring, respectful language and use our experiences in nature as opportunities to understand different points of view. Something as simple as thinking about how BIG we must seem to a small spider invites children to see the world from another perspective, a skill which they can use when playing and problem solving together. The natural environment nurtures children’s sense of empathy -- tending to plants, flowers, trees, bugs, birds, animal homes, and each other. As children strengthen their connections to the natural world, they strengthen their connections to one another.

We grow strong bodies.

Climbing, jumping, building, tiptoeing, dancing, digging, splashing, and running — children engage their whole bodies as they explore the natural world! From rolling the largest log to gently lifting the tiniest ladybug, children practice strength and self-control when playing outdoors. We are committed to spending time outside every day, experiencing all kinds of weather and adapting to our environment. Always being mindful of safety, we create opportunities for children to measure their own risk and test what their bodies can do. At The Children’s Burrow, children find the bravery to take risks, persist in tackling challenges, and experience the confidence that comes with uncovering their own resilience in the natural world.
